For example, collectors are willing to pay between 12,000 and 37,000 hryvnias for a 1-hryvnia coin from 1992 of the variety 1.1AAг. This coin can be easily recognized by its smooth edge without inscriptions.
“The 1-hryvnia coins from 1992 did not have inscriptions on the edge, meaning the edge is smooth. This is because there were initially no tools for applying edge inscriptions,” experts note.
Other Rare Varieties
There are also interesting options for collectors. For instance, a 1-hryvnia coin from 2001 of the variety 1АДг can be sold for up to 5,000 hryvnias. This coin also features a smooth edge without inscriptions.
“Since this hryvnia is rare and valuable, it is often counterfeited by coin counterfeiters. They grind off the inscriptions on the edge of a cheaper 2001 hryvnia. Check the coin’s parameters: the original weighs 6.8 grams and has a diameter of 26 mm,” experts warn.
