How much money is needed to cross the border into Poland in 2025

All foreigners planning to enter Poland — a country that is part of the EU and the Schengen Area — must confirm not only the validity of their passport, visa, or residence card (if necessary) but also their financial capability for the entire duration of their stay.

How much money is needed to cross the Polish border

The amount of money required depends on the length of the trip:

  • for stays of up to 4 days — at least 300 zlotys;
  • if the trip lasts more than 4 days — no less than 75 zlotys for each day;
  • in the absence of a return ticket — an additional amount is required for leaving Poland: 200 zlotys for citizens of neighboring countries, 500 zlotys for residents of other EU countries, and 2500 zlotys for travelers from outside the European Union.

Additionally, having valid medical insurance is mandatory, which will be effective throughout the entire stay and will cover expenses of at least 30,000 euros. The insurance policy must guarantee payment for emergency medical assistance, hospitalization, and repatriation in case of emergencies.

Exceptions and special features for certain categories

There are exceptions to the rule regarding the confirmation of financial capability:

  • foreigners with work visas, visas under the “Pole’s Card,” or with a residence card may not need to show proof of funds;
  • students and researchers are required to have at least 1270 zlotys for the first two months of their stay.

If the necessary documents or funds are not available, the border service may deny entry even with a valid visa. Such a decision takes effect immediately but is subject to appeal.
