In Ukraine, over 12 million residents use gas as their primary energy source for heating, cooking, and water heating. The widespread use of blue fuel is reflected in utility bills, but there are effective ways to reduce gas expenses.

How to Optimize Gas Consumption for Heating
First and foremost, attention should be paid to heating, especially if a gas boiler is installed in the home. The temperature in the house is influenced by many factors: the quality of doors and windows, the area of the living space, the layout of the rooms, as well as the presence of carpets, furniture, and appliances. Modern heating systems are equipped with sensors and automatic thermostats that allow for precise adjustment of the heating mode for each room individually. Installing thermostats on radiators will help control the temperature and heat only the necessary rooms, significantly reducing gas consumption.
Tips for Saving Gas While Cooking and Operating Boilers
To reduce gas costs while cooking, several simple recommendations should be followed:
- Cover pots with a lid while boiling to retain heat;
- Use burners that match the size of the cookware;
- Position cookware in the center of the burner for even flame distribution;
- Avoid cooking excessively small portions;
- Regularly service burners and clean cookware from soot;
- Carefully monitor the flame power at different stages of cooking.
Particular attention should be paid to the selection and maintenance of the gas boiler. Experts recommend opting for condensing models, as they utilize heat not only from gas combustion but also from the combustion products. Although these boilers are more expensive than conventional ones, their cost is quickly offset by fuel savings: a quality boiler can help reduce gas consumption by 10–15%.
“In Europe, only condensing boilers have been used for a long time for energy efficiency. Their benefits have already been proven in practice.”
It is important to choose a boiler with the appropriate power for the area of the premises. If the power is insufficient, the equipment will operate at maximum load, leading to increased gas consumption and shortening the boiler’s lifespan. Remember to regularly clean the heat exchanger from sediment, properly set the temperature, and check the condition of the pipes. Choosing the economical mode (“eco”) will also contribute to reducing expenses.
To lower gas consumption when heating water, set the minimum comfortable temperature on the regulator of a dual-circuit boiler or gas water heater. Do not set the maximum temperature and then dilute hot water with cold—this only increases the use of both gas and water. Regular maintenance of the equipment will help avoid breakdowns and ensure its efficient operation.
