Ukraine Plans to Produce 111 Million Cubic Meters of Biomethane by 2025

In 2025, Ukraine will begin the production of biomethane with new capacities that will provide 111 million cubic meters of this natural gas. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy, Vitaliy Koval, who noted that the country has enormous potential for biomethane production, estimated at nearly 22 billion cubic meters per year.

Vitaliy Koval emphasized that the state has already created all the necessary conditions for the development of this sector. In particular, relevant legislation has been adopted, a biomethane registry has been established, and a system of guarantees of origin has been implemented, along with state support programs that include a law supporting investment projects amounting to €12 million.

Digitalization and Efficiency

According to Koval, the State Agrarian Register can be used to improve the digitalization of the biomethane sector. This platform will facilitate effective interaction among all market participants and automate the transparent distribution of state support in the bioenergy sector.

“Biomethane is an efficient use of agricultural waste and by-products to create high value-added products. And, most importantly, it ensures energy independence. Therefore, the development of bioenergy is among the priorities of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy,” Koval added.

Prospects for Biomethane Development

The production of biomethane in Ukraine opens up new opportunities for the agricultural sector, reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. It will also contribute to improving the environmental situation in the country, as biomethane is an environmentally friendly type of fuel that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
