Billionaires are often associated with luxury, exclusive cars, elite real estate, jewelry, and expensive vacations. However, their spending goes far beyond these areas. On the online community Reddit, users discussed the most impressive examples of how the ultra-wealthy manage their finances, and some of these examples can surprise even seasoned luxury experts.

The Most Original Expenditures of Billionaires
Participants in the discussion provided examples that go well beyond the average person’s perception of wealth. One user shared a story about a house where the owner built an underground garage beneath the library, designed for 80 cars, to accommodate numerous guests.
Another example mentioned a man who spent 30 million dollars to enhance the riverbanks so that guests could swim without getting their feet dirty. In Beverly Hills, a billionaire purchased a house across from his mansion for tens of millions of dollars, demolished it, and created a private park in its place—simply because the building obstructed his picturesque view.
Some expenditures seem truly absurd. One user recounted a story about a man who ordered sushi from the Japanese Tsukiji market with delivery to the USA, but only ate it if there was a certificate stating that the fish was caught no more than 15 hours before serving.
“He also paid the restaurant (I can’t name the specific restaurant or even its location) a huge sum to close down so he could enjoy sushi alone with his wife,” the author added.
Collecting and Unusual Hobbies
Wealthy individuals often indulge in collecting unique items. In the comments, it was mentioned that they purchase weapons made from meteorites or rare artifacts from around the world. Some even collect animals: one billionaire had a private zoo created on hundreds of acres, featuring rare species from various corners of the planet.
Another unusual hobby is acquiring luxurious railway cars from the 1940s and 50s. Some billionaires restore these cars and pay to have them attached to passenger trains, traveling the country in their own retro car.
