Greenhouse Tomato Prices in Ukraine Rise for the Second Consecutive Week

In Ukraine, there has been a significant increase in greenhouse tomato prices for the second consecutive week. Since the beginning of the current week, the average price of this vegetable, grown in greenhouses, has risen by approximately 14%. Producers are offering tomatoes at prices ranging from 35 to 55 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the quality of the product and the volume of purchase.

Reasons for the Price Increase and Market Situation

The main reason for the price increase is attributed to a reduction in supply in the market. Ukrainian greenhouse complexes have harvested a smaller crop, which has been a decisive factor in raising prices. Additionally, the number of field-grown tomatoes has decreased due to the end of their harvesting season. Steady demand from retail chains and wholesale companies further drives prices upward.

“The trend of rising greenhouse tomato prices has persisted for the second consecutive week. The most significant factor influencing the price increase is the reduction in supply caused by a smaller vegetable harvest at Ukrainian greenhouse complexes.”

Current Tomato Prices in Supermarkets

In Ukraine’s retail chains, prices for greenhouse tomatoes vary significantly. For instance, in the Varus supermarket, a kilogram of tomatoes can be purchased for 69.9 UAH, in Novus for 60.99 UAH, and in ATB stores for 67.89 UAH/kg.

It is worth noting that despite the price increase over the past two weeks, greenhouse tomatoes are still, on average, 30% cheaper than in September 2024.
