Increased Support for Ukraine

Germany remains a key donor of military aid to Ukraine among European countries. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression in 2022, Berlin has already provided around €40 billion in assistance. The budget for 2026 allocates €8.5 billion for Ukraine, and the new government decision will raise this amount by an additional €3 billion.

“We will continue to provide support as long as it is needed for defense against Russian aggression,” said the Finance Ministry spokesperson.

Focus of Aid: Artillery, Drones, and Air Defense

The additional funds will be directed towards the procurement of artillery systems, drones, armored vehicles, as well as the replacement of two Patriot air defense systems. At the same time, government sources indicate that Chancellor Friedrich Merz fully supports these plans, which are expected to be officially approved soon.
