Ukraine expects to harvest a larger grain crop in 2025 than last year. The key share will come from corn, which is projected to become the leading agricultural crop of the season.

Record Figures for Corn and Grains
According to Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, the total forecast for grain harvest in 2025 is about 59 million tons, exceeding last year’s result of 56 million tons. The main increase will come from corn — approximately 30 million tons are expected, which is 3 million tons more than in the previous season.
“Harvesting of the two early groups has already been completed. These are wheat and barley. Their figures are similar to last year’s – 22-22.5 million tons for wheat and 5.3 million tons for barley. This amount is more than sufficient for domestic needs,” emphasized Vysotsky.
Wheat and barley, which are traditionally harvested first, have already yielded 22-22.5 million tons and 5.3 million tons respectively — at the same level as in 2024. These volumes, as the official highlighted, will fully satisfy the country’s domestic demand.
Weather Conditions and Harvest Status
The active phase of corn harvesting is ongoing, and, according to the official, farmers have not yet crossed the equator of the harvest. Due to the late spring and rains in September-October, the start of the harvest was delayed, so the main volumes are still ahead. The campaign’s completion is expected by the end of the year, although weather conditions may introduce adjustments.
Oilseed crops this year are showing a decrease in yield. In particular, rapeseed has been harvested at 3.3 million tons, down from last year’s 3.7 million tons. Sunflower maintains last year’s level — 11.5-12 million tons, while soybean yields are lower: 5-5.5 million tons compared to 7.2 million tons in 2024.
This decline is attributed to a reduction in the area planted with soybeans, while the area under corn has increased. Experts note that the coming weeks will be crucial for the final results of the grain and oilseed harvests in 2025.
