The Cabinet Plans to Allow the Export of Ukraine’s Defense Products in May

The Ukrainian government is considering the possibility of allowing the export of defense products as early as May. This initiative is being discussed at various levels and has been in the implementation stage for several months. According to information from government sources, the president has already approved the opening of exports, and responsible officials are working on developing a mechanism to ensure full commercial sales abroad.

Scenarios for Exporting Defense Products

Experts from Forbes have presented three possible scenarios for the export of defense products:

  1. The first option involves the case-by-case approval of each contract. Since the export of military technologies is not legally prohibited in Ukraine at present, manufacturers could have submitted their proposals earlier; however, they generally received rejections.
  2. The second scenario suggests that manufacturers may be allowed to export 50% of the volume of Ukrainian contracts. A portion of the revenue from exports will be required to be allocated for the procurement of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  3. The third scenario involves the creation of a separate fund, where an additional 20% of the revenue from the export of defense industry products will be directed. These funds are planned to be used for the procurement of necessary armaments for the army.
