Galaxy Digital executed one of the largest bitcoin transactions, acting as an intermediary in the sale of over 80,000 BTC that had been inactive for more than 14 years.

On July 25, 2025, Galaxy Digital transferred approximately 80,000 BTC to cryptocurrency exchanges. According to analytical platforms, these funds were accumulated in Galaxy Digital’s accounts between July 15 and 18. A total of 80,009 BTC was received, which at that time was worth about $9.43 billion at the current exchange rate.
The mentioned bitcoins belonged to a large holder who had kept them for over 14 years without any activity. In early July 2025, these assets began to move between various accounts, and by July 25, they were sold through Galaxy Digital.

Market impact and Galaxy Digital’s response
Despite the scale of the operation, the bitcoin price reacted moderately. There was no significant price drop observed on July 4-5. On July 15, when some of the bitcoins began to arrive in Galaxy Digital’s account, the quotes fell to $116,000, but soon recovered. On July 25, the price of bitcoin briefly dipped below this level but quickly returned to around $118,000, where it remains at the time of writing.
Galaxy Digital denied speculation about the sale of its own reserves. The company emphasized that its role was limited to acting as an intermediary—the sale was initiated by a large holder from the Satoshi Nakamoto era as part of a wealth management strategy.
The identity of the buyer, as well as the exact location of the assets after the transaction, remain unknown.
