Free Online Guides for Amputee Veterans Launched in Ukraine

New practical guides have become available on the educational platform “Diia.Education,” created to support individuals who have experienced limb loss. These materials were developed in collaboration with experts from Protez Hub and are aimed at helping with recovery after amputations more effectively and confidently.

Guides for Veterans, Their Families, and Professionals

The initiative is targeted not only at war veterans but also at their relatives, healthcare professionals, and employers involved in the adaptation process. One of the key objectives of the project is to reduce barriers to accessing assistance. The guides contain clear explanations of complex procedures, helping to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy and stress.

Structure of the Educational Materials

The series includes four thematic guides, each detailing a specific aspect of life after amputation:

  • Recovery After Lower Limb Loss — contains information about the entire rehabilitation cycle: from the first days after surgery to learning to walk with a prosthesis and choosing the best solution.
  • Adaptation After Upper Limb Loss — helps individuals return to daily activities, master the use of prostheses, and gradually regain functionality.
  • Returning to Work — explains how to create an inclusive work environment that considers physical capabilities while maintaining team effectiveness.
  • Algorithm for Public Institutions — contains instructions for employees of administrative service centers and social services on supporting individuals in obtaining rehabilitation aids.

The development of the materials took place with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine as part of the project “Path to Rehabilitation: From Region to Community.” Protez Hub and the charitable foundation “Patients of Ukraine” participated in the implementation. Expert and financial support was provided by the organization Enabel as part of the TRUE initiative.

“All guides are available online completely free of charge — they are designed as a tool to help individuals after amputations not only undergo physical rehabilitation but also regain control over their lives and social activities.”

The guides are accessible to anyone in digital format, allowing for quick access to necessary information regardless of residence or user experience level.
