The mining and processing plant of the Ferrexpo group, located in Poltava region, has been forced to completely halt its operational activities due to power supply disruptions. The cause was massive strikes by Russia on Ukrainian energy infrastructure that occurred on the night of January 20.

Forced Shutdown and Consequences for Employees
Due to the unstable electricity supply, the company decided to temporarily suspend production and send part of its staff on leave. The company’s statement emphasizes:
“Until the electricity supply is stable and provided in appropriate volumes, it has been decided to temporarily suspend production and send part of the employees on leave.”
Ferrexpo clarified that the company’s assets were not damaged during the recent missile and drone attack, and there were no casualties or injuries among the employees.
Impact on Production and Prospects
Ferrexpo, which specializes in the production of iron ore raw materials, has faced interruptions in operations due to power supply issues before. In particular, a similar shutdown occurred after the shelling of energy infrastructure in November.
Lucio Genovese, the interim CEO of Ferrexpo, noted that the last quarter was one of the most challenging periods for the company since the onset of the full-scale war, primarily due to the intensification of attacks on energy facilities, particularly in the Poltava region.
Due to regular restrictions on electricity supply, Ferrexpo was forced to reduce its iron ore production volumes in the fourth quarter of 2025 by 29% compared to the previous quarter, down to 1.07 million tons. Overall, for the entire year of 2025, production volume decreased by 9% year-on-year, totaling 6.14 million tons.
Recently, due to the electricity shortage, the company could only operate one of its four pelletizing lines.
