According to data from GMK Center, in the first half of April, electricity prices in Ukraine surpassed those of neighboring countries, including Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia. They were found to be 34% higher than in Germany and 250% higher compared to Sweden. The reasons for this are significant damages inflicted on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure due to Russian shelling.

Currently, the price of imported electricity determines domestic prices in Ukraine. The weighted average price of electricity on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) in the first decade of April was ₴4,834 per MWh (equivalent to €104.6). Meanwhile, in most major European markets, average weekly values, with some exceptions, were recorded below €75 per MWh.
In March 2025, Ukraine imported 272,000 MWh of electricity, which is 11% more compared to the previous month, but 40% less than in March 2024. The largest share of imports came from Hungary — 42%. It is important to note that 93% of steel in the European Union is produced in countries where electricity prices are lower than in Ukraine.
