As part of the nineteenth sanctions package, the EU is considering the possibility of accelerating the timeline for a complete phase-out of Russian gas—from January 1, 2027, although this step was previously planned for early 2028. According to the new proposals, the bloc’s countries could completely halt imports of Russian “blue fuel” in just two years.

The European Union, in turn, is already considering the introduction of tariffs on the remaining oil supplies from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia, which are transported via the “Druzhba” pipeline. It is important to note that the introduction of trade measures, such as tariffs, requires the support of a majority of member states, while sanctions require unanimous approval from all countries in the bloc.
