Support for Transport and Urban Modernization
The majority of the funds received – 28 million euros – will be directed towards upgrading urban transport. Thus, Kyiv, Lviv, and Mykolaiv will be able to purchase new buses, Zaporizhzhia, Ternopil, and Kremenchuk will acquire trolleybuses, Dnipro and Kamianske will invest in trams, while Uzhhorod will buy electric buses. These investments are expected to enhance the quality and environmental sustainability of public transport, as well as make movement within the cities more comfortable.
An additional 13.3 million euros will be allocated for improving municipal infrastructure. In particular, this includes upgrading lighting systems in Dnipro and Kamianske, modernizing water supply in Lutsk, increasing energy efficiency in educational institutions in Sumy, and enhancing the waste management system in Lviv.
Energy Efficiency in the Social Sector
Furthermore, 4.9 million euros have been earmarked for energy-efficient modernization of schools, kindergartens, and medical facilities in the cities of Rivne, Korets, and Kovel. This will help reduce energy consumption, improve conditions for learning and treatment, and lessen the burden on municipal budgets.
“This support is provided at a critical moment when Russia is intensifying its attacks on civilian infrastructure. The European Commission plans to continue close cooperation with the EIB, utilizing the Ukrainian assistance program to provide vital support to Ukraine and its people,”
emphasized the European Commission.
