DniprovaHonMash Produces and Ships Euro-Containers for 1435 mm Track for the First Time

The company “TAS DniprovaHonMash” from Kam’yanske in the Dnipropetrovsk region has produced and shipped two Sgns type platform wagons for the standard 1435 mm railway track for the first time. This marks an important milestone in the development of Ukrainian wagon manufacturing, as the production took place entirely at the company’s own facilities.

Partnership with an Austrian Company and Technological Innovations

The production and shipment of the new wagons were made possible through collaboration with the Austrian company “TransAnt” and the use of its design developments. For the first time, the complete assembly and outfitting of the wagons were carried out at the factory in Ukraine, highlighting the growing potential of the domestic industry for integration with the European market.

“As part of the partnership with our Austrian colleagues, the company ‘TransAnt’, and based on its design developments, ‘TAS DniprovaHonMash’ has manufactured and shipped the first 1435 mm platform wagons. Additionally, for the first time, the complete assembly and outfitting of the wagons took place at our company’s facilities,” the factory reported on Facebook.

The new intermodal platform wagons feature a lightweight design thanks to the use of high-strength steel, which allows for increased load capacity. The Sgns type is a four-axle intermodal platform wagon of European standard, designed for transporting large containers with a load capacity of up to 73 tons.

Strategic Investments and Financial Indicators

The “TAS” group, which controls the company, is actively expanding its presence in the European market. At the beginning of 2023, it became a strategic investor in the joint venture TransAnt GmbH, owned by the Austrian companies voestalpine and ÖBB Rail Cargo. The share of the Ukrainian side initially constituted 40%, which was increased to 61% in the spring of 2024, securing the status of majority owner.

In December 2024, the factory also presented long 80-foot platform wagons for transporting heavy containers. Overall, the company has the capacity to produce up to 9,000 wagons per year. In the first nine months of 2025, the production of freight wagons increased by 19% compared to the same period last year, totaling 542 units.

Despite the increase in production, the company ended January-September 2025 with a loss of 23.7 million UAH. In comparison, during the same period in 2024, it reported a net profit of 53.9 million UAH, while net income grew by 16.3% to reach 1 billion 486.5 million UAH.

“TAS DniprovaHonMash” continues to work on engineering developments, technological assessments, and the production of products for the European railway market that meet modern standards and requirements for transport infrastructure.
