Cucumber Prices in Ukraine Increased by 13% Due to Reduced Supply

In Ukraine, there has been a significant increase in cucumber prices over the past week. The average price rise for this vegetable has been around 13%. The reason for this spike is the reduction in supply in the market, as domestic greenhouses are actively undergoing clean-up before the start of the second crop rotation.

Market Analysis of Cucumbers

According to analysts from the EastFruit project, greenhouse cucumbers are currently being sold for 30–50 UAH per kilogram (equivalent to $0.72–1.20/kg at the current exchange rate). This is nearly 13% higher than it was last working week. Despite the price increase, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine remain more affordable compared to the same period last year — they are currently on average 16% cheaper.

“After a sharp drop in prices in Ukraine last week, cucumbers have started to rise in price again. The supply of the vegetable in the market has decreased because mass clean-ups are being conducted in greenhouses in preparation for the second crop rotation.”

Cucumber Prices in Popular Supermarkets

In national retail chains, the cost of cucumbers is also continuing to rise. For instance, in the ATB supermarket, cucumbers are currently sold for 49.95 UAH per kilogram. In Varus, this vegetable costs 49.90 UAH/kg, while in Silpo, prices start at 45.60 UAH per kilogram.

Experts do not rule out that further increases in cucumber prices may negatively impact consumer demand and sales volumes of this vegetable.
