Court Places Nestor Shufrych Under Round-the-Clock House Arrest

The court has decided to change the preventive measure for Member of Parliament Nestor Shufrych, elected from the banned party “Opposition Platform – For Life”, releasing him from custody to round-the-clock house arrest with an electronic bracelet. This decision was made despite the objections of prosecutors, who insisted on continuing Shufrych’s detention due to the unchanged risks within the criminal proceedings.

Positions of the Parties and the Essence of the Charges

The Office of the Prosecutor General noted that during the court hearing, prosecutors emphasized the seriousness of the offenses attributed to Shufrych. In particular, these include treason and a number of other crimes, as well as the presence of risks that, in the opinion of the prosecution, remain relevant. However, the court decided to change the preventive measure, and Shufrych will now be under house arrest. The OGP emphasized that the ruling is not subject to appeal.

“The Office of the Prosecutor General opposed the change of the preventive measure, as the risks established in this criminal case have not lost their relevance. That is why the prosecutors insisted on further detention of the accused.”

Details of the Case and Previous Court Decisions

The defenders of the Member of Parliament have repeatedly approached the court with requests to change the preventive measure, arguing that the suspicion against Shufrych is unfounded. There are currently no comments from Shufrych himself regarding the latest court decision.

On September 15, 2023, the court first applied a preventive measure in the form of detention for Shufrych on suspicion of treason. In January 2026, the Kyiv Court of Appeals set bail of over 33 million hryvnias as an alternative to detention, but this amount was not paid, and Shufrych continued to remain in custody.

According to the Security Service, Shufrych closely collaborated with former National Security and Defense Council Secretary Volodymyr Sivkovych, who is referred to as an FSB agent and coordinator of Russian agents in Ukraine. The SBU clarified that Shufrych was engaged in subversive activities in the information sphere, spreading Kremlin narratives about the allegedly artificial nature of the Ukrainian state and the unity of Ukrainians and Russians, attempting to influence public sentiment.

In February 2024, in addition to the charge of treason, Shufrych was also suspected of financing the Russian National Guard. The investigation is ongoing, and a final decision in the case has not yet been made.
