Changes in the Structure of Metal Product Exports and Imports

Of the total volume of produced metal products, 61.5% was exported (1.541 million tons), although last year this figure was 65.4%. Against the backdrop of a decrease in the share of exports, supplies to the domestic market increased to 966 thousand tons, which is 8.8% more compared to 2024.

Among the exported items, flat products lead the way – its share in the export structure increased to 46.59% from 40.30% a year earlier. In contrast, the export of semi-finished products decreased from 46.79% to 32.23%.

Recovery of the Domestic Market and Increase in Imports

The import of metal products into Ukraine also underwent changes. Flat products traditionally dominate the import structure, accounting for 76.83% over the first five months of 2025, although this is less than 82.09% in 2024.

Domestic consumption of metal products during this period reached 1.558 million tons, which is 14.48% more than last year. The share of imported products in the domestic market increased to 37.98% compared to 34.74% in the previous year. These changes indicate a gradual recovery of the Ukrainian metal product market and a reorientation of part of the products to meet the needs of the national economy.

The overall dynamics indicate a gradual recovery of the domestic metal product market and a reorientation of part of the products from exports to the needs of the Ukrainian economy.
