Discussion of Cooperation and Commemorative Stamp
During the meeting, Smiliansky presented Steiner with a new postage stamp dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, which “Ukrposhta” is issuing in collaboration with the American postal service. According to Smiliansky, more than half of the export parcels from Ukraine are delivered by the US Postal Service, highlighting the strategic importance of this partnership for the development of international logistics.
“The US Postal Service accounts for over 50% of export parcels from Ukraine.”
Financial Results and Executive Salaries
The meeting took place against the backdrop of a similar financial situation for the two postal giants. The American Postal Service last reported a profit in 2006. For 2025, its losses amounted to $9 billion, which is $0.5 billion less than the previous year. Meanwhile, “Ukrposhta” was profitable in 2021 but also recorded losses in 2025 — 206.551 million hryvnias (approximately $4.9 million).

Despite the losses, the salaries of the executives remain high. David Steiner’s annual salary is $346,780, which is about $28,900 per month. Ihor Smiliansky earns 11.6 million hryvnias per year (approximately $278,978), which is about $23,300 per month.
When comparing salaries to the financial losses of the companies, Steiner’s salary accounts for only 0.004% of the US Postal Service’s losses, while Smiliansky’s figure reaches 5.7%.
It was previously reported that by the end of 2025, “Ukrposhta” managed to reduce its net loss by half; however, the final financial results remain ambiguous due to unmet revenue targets.
