Chumak Halts Construction of Factory in Odesa Region, While a Support Complex for Farmers Opens in Cherkasy

The company “Chumak,” part of the Wilmar International group, has halted the implementation of its new tomato processing factory project in the Odesa region due to macroeconomic challenges and a difficult security situation in the area. The company’s main production site, located in the Kherson region, has been under temporary occupation since the beginning of the full-scale war with Russia.

Change in Chumak’s Operational Model

After losing access to its Kherson facilities, the company was forced to reassess its business strategy. Initially, “Chumak” imported tomato paste from Italy in triangular tubes, but by 2025, the company began engaging the capacities of Ukrainian partners to produce this product domestically.

New Opportunities for Cherkasy Farmers

Meanwhile, in Cherkasy, the company “Agro Plus 2006,” which specializes in pig farming, has opened a modern elevator complex and feed mill with the support of USAID. The new production facilities will not only meet the company’s own needs but will also serve as service platforms to support local agricultural producers.

As part of the project, it is planned to involve over 80 micro, small, and medium-sized agricultural producers who will receive service support and assistance in selling their products at market prices.

Thanks to the implementation of modern facilities in Cherkasy, local farmers will gain access to new services and opportunities for business development, which will contribute to strengthening the agricultural sector in the region even in a state of martial law.
