On August 24, changes will be made to the operation of surface public transport and the metro in Kyiv due to the ceremonial events marking the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

Temporary Closure of Metro Station and Changes in Transport Operations
On Sunday, August 24, the “Maidan Nezalezhnosti” metro station will be inaccessible to passengers — entry and exit at this station will be temporarily prohibited. The restrictions will be in effect from 5:38 AM to 11:00 AM. Meanwhile, the transfer hub “Maidan Nezalezhnosti” – “Khreshchatyk” will continue to operate as usual.
“The restrictions will last from 5:38 AM to 11:00 AM. At the same time, the transfer hub ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ – ‘Khreshchatyk’ will operate as usual,” the statement said.
In case of an air raid alert, the “Maidan Nezalezhnosti” station will serve as a shelter for passengers.
Public Transport Routes Changing Movement
The Kyiv City State Administration has announced that on August 24, a number of bus and trolleybus routes will operate on modified schedules. According to “Kyivpastrans”, from 6:00 AM until the end of the events (approximately until 12:00 PM), trolleybuses will operate on the following routes:
- Route No. 6 — from the Minsk Massif to the “Lukyanivska” metro station;
- Routes No. 16, No. 18 — from Mrii Street and Soshchenka Street to the Povitroflotsky Bridge.
From 7:00 AM until the end of the celebrations (approximately until 11:00 AM), bus routes will change:
- Route No. 62 — on sections from the Botanical Garden to Bessarabskaya Square according to the current route, then: Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, turnaround near Tereshchenkivska Street, Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, Velyka Vasylkivska Street, Bessarabskyi Proyezd, Baseina Street, and then according to the current route back to the Botanical Garden;
- from “Kontraktova Ploshcha” metro station to European Square;
- Routes No. 110, No. 111 — from Myroslavska Street and Darnytsia Square to European Square;
- Route No. 114 — on sections from Myroslavska Street to European Square and from the “Central” railway station to the “Ploshcha Ukrayinskykh Heroiv” metro station.
Celebration of the 34th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence
On August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 34th anniversary of independence. This date is traditionally an official holiday according to current legislation, however, special rules apply during the state of martial law.
It is expected that on August 23, a special representative of the U.S. President, Keith Kellogg, will arrive in Kyiv. He is set to participate in a prayer breakfast and the ceremonial events for Independence Day on August 24.
