Carrot Prices in Ukraine Increased by 12%, but Remain Lower than Last Year

At the beginning of October, the Ukrainian carrot market noted a 12% increase in prices compared to the previous week. Producers set wholesale prices at 7-13 hryvnias per kilogram, which is related to the increased demand for vegetables during this period.

Reasons for the Price Increase and Market Impact

Analysts note that the price of carrots had not changed since the beginning of autumn; however, there is currently an increase in demand, prompting many producers to temporarily halt the sale of quality products. They expect even higher prices, which is why they are limiting supply in the market. As a result, this has affected the average market price.

“It should be noted that, so far, carrot prices in Ukraine are on average 54% cheaper than in the same period last year.”

Possible Price Trends and Current Prices in Supermarkets

Despite the current price increase, the current prices for carrots remain significantly lower than last year. Experts believe that the price rise may be temporary: if prices increase further, producers will begin to actively sell their accumulated stocks, which will increase supply in the market and likely lead to a decrease in prices.

Regarding the retail price of carrots in supermarkets: in the Varus chain, bulk carrots cost 10.9 hryvnias per kilogram, while in Novus and ATB, they are priced at 10.89 hryvnias per kilogram.
