Ukrainian farmers may reduce buckwheat sowing if prices for this popular grain remain unchanged. Such a development could lead to a shortage of buckwheat in the domestic market and further increase the product’s cost for consumers.

Price Predictions for Buckwheat
Experts note that the price of buckwheat in Ukraine has already reached 40 hryvnias per kilogram and may rise by another 7–10% in the near future. However, the increase in cost also has a positive effect: by receiving a higher price, farmers maintain the motivation to sow fields with buckwheat, which supports market supply stability.
“It is already possible to observe an increase in the price of buckwheat, which is currently at 40 hryvnias per kilogram. A slight increase of 7-10% is possible. However, this increase will also have a positive effect, as farmers, receiving a fair price, will maintain or increase the sowing areas for the crop next year,” says the specialist.
Impact on the Market and the 2025 Harvest
Maintaining or even increasing the sowing areas for buckwheat will help avoid a significant shortage and a sharp price spike in the future. At the same time, a reduction in areas under this crop will inevitably lead to a decrease in supply volumes and further price increases, which Ukrainians have already faced before.
Despite this year’s decrease in yield and sowing areas, experts reassure that the volume of harvested buckwheat should be sufficient for the country’s domestic needs. It is estimated that in 2025, the harvest is expected to be 96 thousand tons of buckwheat, which is 85% of last year’s gross harvest. This volume will be enough to meet the demand for the grain among the Ukrainian population.
