In Ukraine, the average pension currently amounts to 6,436 hryvnias, which is equivalent to 133 euros at the current exchange rate. This figure is comparable to the level of pension payments in countries like Albania.

How Pensions are Distributed Among Ukrainians

According to the latest data, nearly one-third of Ukrainian pensioners – over 3.3 million people – receive payments of only 3,340 hryvnias per month, which is approximately 69 euros. Another 4% of pensioners are forced to live on 2,300 hryvnias per month.

“It is worth noting that last year there were even more such pensioners – 26% received less than 3,000 UAH, but after indexing, payments increased to 3,000 UAH per month.”

At the same time, some pensioners receive significantly higher payments. About 1.5 million citizens, which constitutes 15% of the total number of pensioners, have an average pension of 15,750 hryvnias (approximately 325 euros). Nearly 3 million Ukrainians receive an average of 6,860 hryvnias, while 2.1 million receive only 4,510 hryvnias per month.

Comparison of Pensions in Ukraine and Europe

According to analysts, the size of the Ukrainian pension remains one of the lowest in Europe. It is nearly equal to the pension in Albania, where the average figure is 160 euros. In comparison, in Romania and Bulgaria, pensions range from 450 to 550 euros, while in Poland and the Czech Republic, they range from 800 to 900 euros per month.

The regional distribution of pension payments also shows significant differences. The highest pensions are received by residents of Kyiv – on average 8,848 hryvnias, which is 37% higher than the national average. The lowest pension levels are recorded in the western regions: in Ternopil – 4,997 hryvnias, in Chernivtsi region – 5,173 hryvnias, and in Transcarpathia – 5,233 hryvnias.

More than a quarter of Ukrainian pensioners continue to work even after retiring. Currently, there are 2.8 million working pensioners who receive an average of 7,069 hryvnias per month.
