British Military Under Threat and London’s Response
John Healey noted that there were 300 British servicemen at the military base in Bahrain, which became a target for missile and drone strikes. Some of them were located just a few hundred yards from the explosion site. The minister emphasized that such incidents demonstrate how British military personnel and civilians are under threat from a “regime that is becoming increasingly indiscriminate and uncontrollable in its attacks.”
“We are conducting these combat sorties. We are intercepting drones that threaten our bases, our people, or our allies,” Healey said.
He stressed that the United Kingdom is making every effort to prevent further escalation in the region. In particular, British aircraft patrolled the airspace throughout Saturday and night. Additionally, defensive forces in the Middle East have been strengthened in conjunction with the US.
Details of the Incident and Iran’s Response
At the same time, it is emphasized that the British side did not participate in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran. On the island of Cyprus, which became the target for Iranian missiles, there are two British military bases.
On February 28, the Israeli army struck Iranian territory, after which US President Donald Trump announced the beginning of large-scale military operations against Iran. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out a series of drone and ballistic missile attacks on Israel, as well as on targets in Middle Eastern countries where US military bases are located. Explosions were reported in Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. According to reports from the scene, explosions were again heard in Tehran today.
