Beet Market Situation: Shortage and Prices
Ukrainian farmers have already begun supplying beets from the new harvest, but the quantity available in the market is still small. According to analysts, beets are being sold at a price of 25-33 UAH/kg ($0.60-0.80 per kilogram) depending on quality and batch size. This is 21% more expensive than during the same period last year.
“The supply of beets from the 2024 harvest is limited, but demand remains high. As a result, prices have been at record high levels for several months compared to last season.”
Start of the New Harvest Season and Supermarket Pricing Policy
The season for selling table beets from the 2025 harvest has begun. At the start of the season, prices range from 32-40 UAH/kg ($0.77-0.96 per kilogram). Experts predict that as the volume of the new harvest increases, the price of beets may decrease somewhat; however, significant reductions are not expected due to the lack of stocks from the 2024 harvest.
In Ukrainian supermarkets, beet prices vary significantly. In the Silpo chain, a kilogram of beets is sold for 61 UAH, in ATB the early vegetable can be purchased for 49.89 UAH/kg, while in Varus it starts from 49.90 UAH/kg.
Thus, Ukrainian consumers should expect further fluctuations in beet prices, with a possible slight decrease if the supply of the new harvest increases.
