Restrictions Against Shipping Companies and Houthis

The sanctions specifically include the shipping companies Unico Shipping Co Ltd and Athena Shipping Co Ltd, both headquartered in Hong Kong. The US Department of the Treasury has also imposed restrictions on the Houthis in Yemen due to suspicions of illegal oil trading and shipping. Four individuals, twelve organizations, and two vessels associated with this activity have been sanctioned.

“The United States remains determined to cut off any attempts by Iran to acquire sensitive technologies, components, and dual-use equipment that underpin the regime’s programs for developing ballistic missiles, drones, and asymmetric weapons,” stated US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

According to the Secretary, the US Treasury will continue to work on limiting Iran’s capabilities to produce and disseminate weapons that pose a threat to stability in the region and global security.

Negotiations with Iran: Europe’s Proposal

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that European countries are preparing a comprehensive proposal for Iran to initiate negotiations. He stated that this initiative aims to halt hostilities between Tehran and Israel, and includes a complete cessation of uranium enrichment by Iran and restrictions on missile activities that could potentially lead to the creation of nuclear weapons. Macron also emphasized the need to reduce funding for terrorist groups from Tehran.
