The American Senate is considering a bill that would allow President Donald Trump to impose tariffs of 500% on countries importing goods from the Russian Federation. This was reported by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. According to Ukraine’s presidential representative for sanctions, Vladyslav Vasyuk, this bill is likely to be passed, although not in its current form.

New EU Sanctions: A Blow to Ports and Oil
The European Union is currently working on the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which, in addition to restrictions on vessels from the so-called “shadow fleet,” plans to introduce sanctions against port infrastructure. At the same time, as Vasyuk notes, the 18th package of sanctions, which proposes lowering the price cap on Russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel, has yet to be agreed upon. Greece, Cyprus, and Malta oppose this initiative, as the current “price ceiling” allows them to transport Russian oil without significant restrictions. Ukraine hopes to reach a compromise on this package this week.
Western Coordination and New Initiatives
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that the EU, with the support of France and in cooperation with American senators, is preparing the toughest sanctions against Russia in the history of the full-scale war. These will affect Russia’s oil revenues, financial flows, and intermediaries in third countries.
“The idea of creating a special group based on the G7 to monitor the implementation of sanctions is actively discussed by the overwhelming majority of Ukraine’s partners and allies, but the US has currently taken a pause to make a final decision. A final response is expected in September,” said Vladyslav Vasyuk.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has implemented another package of sanctions against Russia, citing the use of chemical weapons against Ukraine.
