Agricultural Sector Provides Half of Ukraine’s Foreign Currency Earnings: Most Profitable Crops of 2025

The Ukrainian agricultural sector continues to be a key driver of the economy, providing a significant share of export revenue and employment. According to the Ministry of Economy, one in five Ukrainians works in this sector, which accounts for about 17% of the country’s gross domestic product and nearly half of the foreign currency earnings from goods exports.

Sunflower – Leader in Profitability Among Agricultural Crops

In 2025, sunflower became the most profitable agricultural crop. Under favorable weather conditions and the implementation of modern agricultural technologies, the profitability of sunflower cultivation can reach $985 per hectare. Wheat ranks second in profitability, followed by corn, soybeans, and rapeseed.

Export Trends: Decrease in Corn, Increase in Livestock Products

In October 2025, corn exports from Ukraine decreased by 51% compared to the same period last season, totaling approximately 941 thousand tons. The decline in volumes is attributed to delays in harvesting due to unfavorable weather conditions. At the same time, it is projected that by the end of the current season, Ukraine will export 24.5 million tons of corn, which is 22% more than last year.

In the livestock sector, from January to October 2025, poultry meat exports decreased by 0.8% to 368.7 thousand tons; however, foreign currency earnings increased by 15% to $911.7 million. Meanwhile, egg exports generated $159 million, which is 170% more than last year. In the first ten months of 2025, Ukraine exported 111,110 tons of dairy products, which is 9% more than in the previous period, and export earnings in this segment increased by 39% to reach $347.87 million.
