What Impact Does Ukrainian Export Have on the Import of Key Trade Partners

Ukrainian goods do not play a decisive role in the import structure of most of Ukraine’s main trade partners. This conclusion was reached by experts from the Institute of Economic Research during the presentation of a study dedicated to the analysis of importers of Ukrainian products.

Ukraine’s Share in Imports: A Detailed Analysis

Among Ukraine’s main partners are Poland, Romania, Turkey, Moldova, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, China, and Slovakia. Only in Moldova does the share of Ukrainian goods in the total import volume reach 12.1%. In other countries, this figure remains significantly lower—no more than 1.4%, while in China it is only 0.2%.

“Except for Moldova, where the share of imports from Ukraine reaches 12.1%, in other partner countries our share in total imports does not exceed 1.4%, and in China it is only 0.2%,” said Movchan.

Positions of Ukrainian Goods in Global Markets

Even in those sectors where Ukraine holds a notable position (particularly in the supply of sunflower oil, processed seed products, iron ores, and concentrates), its role is not decisive for the imports of these countries. Ukraine remains one of many suppliers for its partners, rather than a dominant market player.

Since the onset of the full-scale war in 2022, Ukrainian companies have been more actively integrating into foreign economic activities. This has led to Ukraine being significantly more noticed in international markets, not only due to its goods but also because of its overall presence and the expansion of export opportunities.
