Partnership with the Swiss Private Sector
The official signing of the memoranda of understanding took place between Ukrzaliznytsia, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and leading Swiss companies Arthur Flury AG and Schwihag AG. Thanks to these agreements, the Ukrainian company became the first to involve the Swiss private sector in infrastructure restoration projects in Ukraine.
What Ukrzaliznytsia Will Receive
Over the next three years, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive:
- more than 1.04 million sets of rail fasteners, sufficient to equip approximately 250 kilometers of tracks. Rail fasteners ensure reliable attachment of rails to sleepers, reduce vibrations, and prevent track deformation under the load of trains;
- about 4,000 sets of sectional insulators for the contact network, which will modernize 36% of the contact network. Sectional insulators act as “smart fuses,” dividing the contact network into autonomous sections, allowing for quick localization of damage after shelling and conducting repairs without halting movement along the entire route.
Ukrzaliznytsia has become the first company to sign a memorandum to involve the Swiss private sector in Ukraine’s restoration projects.
The implementation of the memorandum will take place within the framework of two main projects: “Components for the Contact Network” from Arthur Flury AG and “Schwihag Ukraine” from Schwihag AG. The total budget for both projects amounts to 27.3 million Swiss francs, equivalent to over 29 million euros.
The Swiss government is providing funding for the purchase of materials for Ukrzaliznytsia. The selection of companies to supply the components was conducted by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. The materials will be supplied by the private Swiss companies Schwihag AG and Arthur Flury AG.
It is worth noting that earlier, under the Swiss grant agreement, Schwihag AG had already provided over 1.8 million Swiss fasteners worth more than 25.3 million euros. This enabled the major repair of approximately 500 kilometers of railway tracks in Ukraine.
