Ukrainians purchased twice as much firewood in 2026 compared to last year

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian citizens and social institutions have already purchased nearly 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood. This is double the figure for the same period in 2025, when 534 thousand cubic meters were sold.

Increase in demand and price stability

The average monthly volume of firewood shipments currently stands at about 225 thousand cubic meters — previously, such dynamics were typical only for peak months of the heating season. Experts predict that by the end of the year, firewood consumption could reach a record high of over 3 million cubic meters, while last year this figure was 2.45 million cubic meters.

“The population and social institutions have received nearly 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood, which is twice as much as in the same period of 2025 (534 thousand cubic meters).”

Despite the increase in demand, there is no shortage of firewood in the market. The company has about 200 thousand cubic meters of wood in stock, and sufficient reserves are monitored in each of the 1340 forestry units. By the end of 2026, it is planned to harvest another 2 million cubic meters to meet household needs.

Prices and participation in tenders

The state enterprise guarantees that prices for firewood for the population will remain stable until the end of the 2026/2027 heating season, unless there is a significant increase in fuel or logistics costs. The price per cubic meter of firewood depends on the type: hardwood (Group I) costs 1400 UAH including VAT, Group II (pine, alder) — 1100 UAH including VAT, and Group III (spruce, fir, softwood species) — 950 UAH including VAT.

In addition to supplying the population, the enterprise actively participates in tenders for budget institutions and Ministry of Defense structures. Since the beginning of 2026, 813 contracts have been signed for the supply of 247 thousand cubic meters of firewood, over 130 thousand of which have already been delivered to customers.

The government has also allocated 3 billion UAH from the reserve fund for the installation of 216 modular boiler houses, including in Kyiv, to enhance energy efficiency and ensure stable heat supply.
