Ukrainian General Staff confirmed strikes on the oil refinery in Oryol and destruction of Russian helicopters

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced successful strikes on a number of strategic facilities in the territory of the Russian Federation and in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. The operations took place on April 29 and during the night of April 30, targeting several important objectives.

This is reported by Finway

Damage to the oil refinery “Orsknefteorgsintez”

The main target was the oil refinery “Orsknefteorgsintez”, located in the city of Oryol in the Orenburg region of Russia. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out at the facility, which was reported by local residents. The refinery is a facility that meets the logistical needs of the Russian army — it produces over 30 types of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation kerosene. Its annual oil processing capacity is 6.6 million tons.

“In particular, the oil refinery ‘Orsknefteorgsintez’ (Oryol, Orenburg region, Russia) was hit. A strike was recorded with subsequent fire on the territory of the facility. The object is involved in supporting the Russian occupation army.”

Other affected facilities

In addition to the oil refinery, the Defense Forces reported damage and destruction of several other important targets:

  • Mi-28 and Mi-17 helicopters in the area of the settlement of Babki in the Voronezh region;
  • the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system near Oleksandrivka in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region;
  • the command post of the Russian artillery brigade in Lysychansk;
  • an ammunition depot near Kremenivka in occupied Donetsk;
  • the bases of Russian boats in the Black Sea.

The Russian military command does not confirm these losses, and independent verification of the information is currently impossible. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have allegedly shot down 189 Ukrainian drones on the night of April 30 and another ten in the second half of April 29.

The mayor of Oryol, Artem Vorobyov, reported that morning about a drone attack on the city, and local Telegram channels published footage from the scene confirming the damage to the refinery.

The commander of the drone forces, Robert Brovdy, also reported damage to Russian helicopters in the Voronezh region. Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of Russia, planes, warehouses, military bases, and especially oil refineries have become regular targets for Ukrainian attacks — only in 2024 and 2025, they have repeatedly suffered destruction.

The General Staff has repeatedly emphasized that such operations are aimed at reducing the combat potential of Russian troops and are intended to compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.
