Ukraine restored a record 14 million square meters of state roads in five months of 2026

The main stage of repairs on state roads in Ukraine has been completed, which lasted during the first five months of 2026. During this period, road workers restored nearly 13.9 million square meters of road surface, the highest figure since the start of the full-scale war.

This is reported by Finway

“Compared to previous years, the volume of work completed has increased significantly. If in 2025, 1.7 million square meters were repaired during the same period, this year this figure exceeded it by more than eight times.”

Main focus — strategic directions

Repair work was mainly concentrated on key highways that ensure interregional connectivity, support logistics chains, and provide access to borders with the European Union. The largest volumes of upgrades were recorded on the following routes:

  • Kyiv — Chop (M-06);
  • Kyiv — Odesa (M-05);
  • Odesa — Melitopol — Novoazovsk (M-14);
  • Kharkiv — Dnipro (M-29);
  • Vystupovychi — Zhytomyr — Mohyliv-Podilskyi (M-21).

The importance of road infrastructure for the economy and security

Maintaining the transport network in good condition remains one of the state’s priority tasks during the war. Roads play a key role in ensuring military logistics, transporting humanitarian cargo, the uninterrupted operation of businesses, and export supplies. Despite the completion of the main stage of the repair campaign, some routes will continue to be restored throughout the year.

In addition to repairs, a new service has been implemented in the “Kyiv Digital” app for the convenience of drivers — “Map of Repairs and Closures”. It allows users to quickly learn about all current traffic restrictions in the capital, helping to plan routes and avoid traffic jams.
