An initiative has been launched in Ukraine to increase payments for childbirth. According to the new proposals, payments for the first child may be increased to 50-75 thousand hryvnias, for the second child to 125 thousand hryvnias, and for the third child to 175 thousand hryvnias. This innovation aims not only to enhance financial support for families but also to actively combat the demographic crisis.

Support System for Families
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy, Danilo Hetmantsev, representing the Servant of the People party, emphasized the importance of these changes. He noted:
“This is an important and timely step for us as a state to not only talk about supporting families but also to take real action”
.
Hetmantsev also reminded that back in 2021, he submitted a bill to increase payments, but it did not progress further. The proposed amounts were 50 thousand hryvnias for the first child, 100 thousand hryvnias for the second, and 150 thousand hryvnias for the third. Now, considering inflation, the amounts should be adjusted to 75, 125, and 175 thousand hryvnias respectively.
Long-term Support for Children and Families
Hetmantsev assures that he does not support populism and emphasizes the relevance of realistic proposals with clear funding sources.
“I am not a proponent of populism. We should only propose what we can actually finance. Not 400 thousand hryvnias on paper, but real programs with clear funding sources”
.
In addition to one-time payments, a system of long-term support for children and families is planned, which will include projects such as “eCrèche” to provide care from an early age, “School Starter Kit” to assist with school preparation, as well as other forms of social support until adulthood. Hetmantsev stated:
“Our goal is not just to give money at birth, but to support the child from day one and help the family at every stage of life”
.
The implementation of these changes is expected to contribute not only to an increase in birth rates but also to creating a sense of security and stability for young families in Ukraine.
