In Ukraine, over a thousand new stores opened in six months

In the first half of 2025, companies that are part of the Retailers Association of Ukraine opened 1,056 new stores across the country. At the same time, during this period, 326 retail outlets were closed, resulting in a net expansion of retail networks by 730 stores.

Market Structure: Leaders by Number of Stores

As of early July 2025, there were 23,892 stores operating in Ukraine, belonging to 113 retail chains represented in eight main retail sectors. The highest concentration of retail outlets is traditionally observed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where 5,622 stores operate. In the Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, there are over 2,000 retail outlets, while in the Odesa and Kharkiv regions, there are over 1,000 stores in each.

Growth Dynamics in Different Segments

The positive growth dynamics of the retail market are maintained in most regions. In the food segment, 149 new stores were opened in the first six months of 2025. This segment accounts for 21% of the total number of retail outlets in Ukraine. The most active growth in food retail is noted in the Kyiv, Lviv, and Volyn regions.

“In June, there were 8,847 pharmacies operating in Ukraine, of which 383 were new outlets. Considering the 108 closed pharmacies, the net increase was 275 outlets.”

Thanks to the opening of new retail outlets and the stable development of the industry, the retail market in Ukraine continues to demonstrate steady growth and adaptation to modern economic conditions.
