The draft of a new agreement on minerals proposed by the United States has limited chances of being signed in its current form, say Ukrainian officials. They emphasize that the document creates the impression that Ukraine «fought a war with the US, lost, was conquered, and is now forced to pay reparations for life».

The new draft agreement, which spans 55 pages, does not provide any security guarantees. All support received by Ukraine from the US during the war is perceived as a debt that must be repaid from the profits of the agreement.

, noted one official.
President Volodymyr Zelensky added that in the event of any risky moments in the agreement, he would inform the Ukrainian public. He also emphasized that Ukraine is not ready to recognize assistance from the US as a debt. Most likely, the Ukrainian side will insist on amendments to the updated agreement, particularly regarding an increase in the volume of American investments.
Experts suggest that the Trump administration deliberately included terms in the agreement that could become an «official» reason for conflict with the Ukrainian authorities.
Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the document is currently under discussion, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is working to ensure that it reflects all of Kyiv’s interests and aligns with the spirit of strategic partnership with Washington.
