Ukraine Needs an Additional 750 Million Dollars for Gas Purchases

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the country is short of approximately 750 million dollars for the full financing of gas purchases. According to the head of state, Ukraine has already received a pledge of additional support from the European Union amounting to 127 million euros.

Support from the European Union and the Search for New Solutions

During a meeting with journalists, Zelensky emphasized that a significant portion of the total required amount of 2 billion dollars is still lacking. He highlighted the role of the European Commission, particularly President Ursula von der Leyen, in providing financial assistance to stabilize the energy situation in Ukraine.

“As of today, we understand that we are short of approximately 750 million dollars out of the 2 billion dollars we discussed. Regarding gas, President Ursula (the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen) just stated that we will receive about 127 million euros in support,” he said.

Further Negotiations and International Cooperation

The President of Ukraine noted that negotiations are scheduled for next week with the leaders of countries that support Ukrainian energy. Particularly close cooperation has been established with Norway, but discussions regarding the details of assistance are ongoing with other European countries. Zelensky thanked all partners who have already provided support and emphasized the importance of continued international solidarity in addressing the country’s energy challenges.
