Contacts with EU leaders regarding financial support

President Zelensky noted that he had discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The main topic of discussion was the unlocking of the financial support package for Ukraine, which had already been approved by the European Council but remained blocked.

“It is important that the European support package for Ukraine is unlocked – 90 billion euros over two years. These funds have already been approved by the European Council, but were blocked. There are currently no reasons for blocking. The European Union asked Ukraine to repair the “Druzhba” pipeline, which was damaged by the Russians. We have repaired it. We hope that the European Union will also implement the agreements,” he said.

Sanctions against Russia and further steps

Volodymyr Zelensky also emphasized that there has been no progress recently in implementing new sanctions against Russia due to its war against Ukraine. The President stressed that the sanctions pressure must be intensified so that the Russian Federation does not remain unpunished and does not have the opportunity to continue its aggression without consequences.

Previously, the head of state had already discussed with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen the issue of unlocking the financial support package for Ukraine, which provides for the allocation of 90 billion euros over two years.
