Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, during his visit to Brussels, stated that Ukraine has urged the European Union to cap the price of Russian oil at $30 per barrel, which would mean a halving of its value.

“We raised the issue of capping the price of Russian oil. I mentioned the figure we consider justified – thirty dollars. We presented our vision regarding other sanction measures. We are now at a stage where, through joint efforts, we can deliver a devastating blow to the Russian economy, forcing them to seek peace. Another area that is undoubtedly painful for the Russian economy is the banking sector, including the central bank. So we discussed all these matters,” the minister told reporters.
Sybiha emphasized the need for immediate maximum diplomatic efforts from Kyiv to achieve a just and comprehensive peace for Ukraine. He noted:
“Right now, at this critical moment, we must achieve our strategic goal. Ukraine is committed to peaceful efforts and has never been an obstacle to peace. Therefore, it was important to inform our European colleagues about the developments, including President Zelensky’s trip to Turkey, which played a crucial role in revitalizing peace efforts.”
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also recalled President Zelensky’s recent talks with Donald Trump and European leaders, noting that
“extremely intensive work is ongoing.”
Sybiha stressed that Ukraine will continue to uphold its principled positions and act in unison to achieve a just peace, stating that the first step on this path should be a ceasefire.
“The ceasefire must be unconditional and without reservations,” the minister added.
It is worth noting that on May 20, Andrii Sybiha participated in a meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers Council, where he informed his colleagues about the current situation on the battlefield and the dynamics of peace efforts following meetings in Turkey.
