Which banknotes may be rejected?
According to information from the National Bank of Ukraine, banknotes with an area of less than 55% of the original size during processing may be refused. This also applies to banknotes that are contaminated with chemical or radioactive substances, as well as toxic organic materials that could pose a health risk.
“Territorial units of the National Bank exchange genuine banknotes contaminated with chemicals and radioactive substances, as well as any toxic organic materials, only if there is a document confirming the disinfection and/or decontamination of the banknotes,” emphasized the National Bank.
Requirements for damaged banknotes
At the same time, if the damaged banknotes retain an intact portion of at least 55% of the original area, bank tellers must accept them without restrictions. Torn or cut banknotes are also eligible for acceptance if:
- both identical numbers and series are preserved;
- the total area of the pieces is at least 55% of the original area of the banknote.
