In Ukraine, there has been a significant decrease in prices for greenhouse cucumbers following a period of stable growth. Over the past week, the product has become 24% cheaper, which has come as a surprise to many market participants.

Reasons for the Price Drop in the Cucumber Market
Analysts note that the key factor behind the price reduction has been the rapid increase in supply. Farms have begun to harvest their new crops en masse, significantly increasing the number of cucumbers available in the market. At the same time, demand remains low, which further puts pressure on prices. Representatives of greenhouse complexes emphasize that seasonal factors and weak buyer activity in both retail and wholesale trade are forcing them to lower their selling prices.
Quality and Price Dynamics
Another factor affecting the market has been the inadequate quality of some new products. Certain batches of cucumbers did not meet buyer expectations, impacting sales rates. Currently, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are being sold at prices ranging from 25 to 45 UAH per kilogram (equivalent to $0.60-1.09/kg). This is 24% cheaper than at the end of last week and 32% lower compared to August 2024.
“Despite the price drop, producers do not expect a quick change in the market situation and predict further declines in value due to overproduction and weak demand.”
Thus, in the near future, cucumber prices may remain at a low level or even continue to fall if the trends of overproduction and weak demand persist.
