Geography and Dynamics of the Construction Business

The majority of construction companies in Ukraine are concentrated in Kyiv, where there are 2,489 enterprises operating in this sector. The top five also includes Dnipropetrovsk region with 880 companies, Kyiv region (865), Lviv (788), and Odesa (658). At the same time, the fewest construction firms are recorded in Zhytomyr region (173), Sumy region (158), Chernihiv region (143), Ternopil region (128), and Chernivtsi region (115).

“In 2021, the number of registered construction companies was 2,958 (almost 33% more than the average in other years). Due to the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation in 2022, this figure decreased to 1,492 companies. In 2023, 2,063 construction firms were registered, in 2024 – 2,024, and in the first half of 2025 – 1,401.”

Thus, despite the challenges posed by the war, Ukraine’s construction industry is showing gradual recovery, although the number of new companies has not yet reached pre-crisis levels.
