In 2025, Ukraine made history by exporting gaseous biomethane for the first time, marking an important milestone for the domestic energy sector. Throughout the year, private Ukrainian companies exported over 11.2 million cubic meters of this environmentally friendly fuel abroad.

First Successful Biomethane Deliveries
Ukraine’s entry into the international biomethane market began in February 2025, when the company “Vitagro” organized the first export shipment of 67,500 cubic meters through the gas transportation system to Slovakia. Prior to this, biomethane had never been exported from Ukraine.
In total, three Ukrainian companies exported gaseous biomethane produced in-house in 2025. The leading position in export volumes was held by the MHP holding, which sent approximately 8.7 million cubic meters of biomethane abroad, accounting for about 77% of total exports for the year.
“The export of biomethane began in February 2025, when the first Ukrainian company (Vitagro) exported 67,500 cubic meters of its own produced biomethane through the gas transportation system to Slovakia. Prior to this, biomethane had never been exported in Ukraine’s history.”
The second position in export volumes was held by the Vitagro group of companies, with an indicator of about 2.5 million cubic meters of biomethane. The company “Hals Agro” also made one export shipment of its own biomethane, totaling over 75,000 cubic meters.
Growth of Liquefied Biomethane Exports
In addition to gaseous biomethane, in 2025, two Ukrainian companies exported liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG). The MHP holding supplied over 5,000 tons of liquefied biomethane to Europe, while the company “UM Liquid Gas” exported nearly 900 tons. All of this volume was delivered by tanker trucks to EU countries.
Thus, in 2025, Ukraine significantly increased its presence in the European green gas market, opening new opportunities for the development of bioenergy and enhancing the country’s energy independence.
