Turkey Plans to Double Gas Production in the Black Sea by 2026

Expansion of Production Capacity and New Wells

Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated that in the coming years, the country plans to double its natural gas production in the Black Sea. According to him, by 2026, this gas will supply energy to 8 million Turkish households.

“By 2026, gas production in the Black Sea will double, covering 8 million households,” noted Bayraktar.

Additionally, Turkish authorities plan to drill six new exploratory wells in the central and eastern parts of the Black Sea. The minister emphasized that the locations of the future wells have already been determined, and the search for new gas deposits will continue on an ongoing basis.

Financial Potential and Strategic Goals

According to government estimates, after fully developing the Black Sea fields, revenues from natural gas production could reach $6.5 billion at current prices. In the long term, Turkey has an ambitious goal of quadrupling gas production by 2028 to 40 million cubic meters per day. This will meet the needs for blue fuel for 16–17 million households, which accounts for about 70–75% of all households in the country.

Such extensive plans reflect Turkey’s desire to reduce dependence on energy imports and strengthen its own energy sector by tapping into national resources.
