In Turkey, a US Army Aegir-W sea drone washed ashore: possible testing in Ukraine

In the Turkish city of Ordu on March 21, local residents noticed an unknown sea drone on the shore, which was later identified as the Aegir-W unmanned surface vehicle developed by the American company Sierra Nevada Corporation.

This is reported by Finway

Technical Specifications of the Aegir-W Sea Drone

Military experts report that the drone is approximately 10 meters long, can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h, and is capable of carrying up to 300 kg of payload. The operational range of this device is up to 900 km, making it suitable for carrying out long-duration missions at sea.

Possible Ukrainian Connection to the Drone’s Appearance

After the drone was discovered, the Turkish military decided to destroy it following the completion of relevant checks. However, experts suggest that its appearance on the Black Sea coast of Turkey may be linked to the use or testing of similar devices by Ukraine. There has been no information regarding the official presence of the Aegir sea drone within Ukrainian forces or its testing on Ukrainian territory.

“In fact, the most likely explanation for how this American sea drone ended up on the Black Sea coast of Turkey is that Ukraine possesses or is testing it — previously, there were no reports regarding either the first or the second concerning the Aegir sea drone.”

Since the onset of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, unmanned surface drones have increasingly been found along the Turkish coast. However, there have been no official announcements from Sierra Nevada Corporation regarding the transfer of the Aegir-W to Ukraine at this time.

Earlier, Ukraine presented the Toloka underwater drone, which can travel up to 2000 km and carry loads of up to 5 tons. It is also known that Ukrainian drones successfully completed missions during the international exercises REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 2025, where a team under Ukrainian command managed to sink a NATO frigate.
