Trump’s Phone Call During the Rally
U.S. Vice President JD Vance personally attended the event, where he initially attempted to reach Trump but encountered a voicemail stating that the president’s mailbox had not yet been set up. After several attempts, Vance was able to connect with the head of the White House, and upon hearing the reaction of the Hungarian audience, Trump decided to address the rally participants immediately.
“I am a big fan of Viktor, I fully support him, and the United States fully supports him.”
The U.S. president also emphasized that Orban did not allow “people to storm your country and invade it, as others have done.”
Electoral Context in Hungary
The actions of American officials are aimed at supporting Orban and his party, Fidesz, ahead of the crucial elections. Previously, Trump had already addressed the Hungarian public, urging them to support the incumbent prime minister and his political force. The American leader highlighted that he shares common priorities with Orban in security policy and migration management.
At the same time, Romanian journalist Romeo Cozma, author of a book about Orban, believes that if the incumbent prime minister loses the election, he does not intend to simply relinquish power.
In his campaign, Orban often uses the topic of Ukraine, positioning it as a threat to Hungary. This rhetoric is aimed at consolidating the electorate around the government and raising doubts among European politicians regarding continued support for our country.
