TON and Libre Launch $500 Million Fund for Tokenizing Telegram Debt

TON Foundation and the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization service Libre have announced the creation of a new fund called the Telegram Bond Fund, with a volume of $500 million. This fund allows institutional investors to profit from the debt obligations of the Telegram messenger by converting them into DeFi assets.

The total amount of Telegram’s debt bonds is $2.4 billion. According to representatives of the TON Foundation, the launch of the Telegram Bond Fund is one of the largest initiatives in the RWA sector.

Benefits of Collaboration

The statement notes that the new fund combines the profitability of traditional finance with the advantages of decentralized finance (DeFi). Dr. Jez Mohidin, head of Libre and CEO of Laser Digital, emphasized:

“This collaboration merges institutional infrastructure with the mass accessibility of blockchain.”

The fund provides regulated access to bonds totaling $2.4 billion and supports participation in future issuances of Telegram’s debt obligations. Users will have the opportunity to buy and store assets through TON wallets, as well as use tokens as collateral for new financial strategies within the TON ecosystem.

Development of the RWA Sector

Activity in the RWA sector is increasing. For example, BlackRock’s BUIDL fund has reached a market capitalization of over $2.5 billion, and DAMAC in Dubai has signed a $1 billion deal with the MANTRA blockchain to tokenize physical assets such as real estate and data centers. According to DeFiLlama, the total value of such assets exceeds $11.13 billion, having doubled over the year.

Libre, which has previously collaborated with companies like BlackRock, Nomura, and Brevan Howard, has already tokenized over $200 million in assets and is now expanding its operations to the TON network. At the end of January 2025, representatives of the TON ecosystem announced a roadmap for the first half of this year.
