Main Reasons for the Decrease in Problematic Loans

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, a key factor in reducing the share of NPL was the active growth in the volume of new loans with high-quality servicing. From January to August 2025, the gross volume of lending in the banking system increased by UAH 183.5 billion, which corresponds to a growth of 14.1% — reaching UAH 1.482 trillion.

At the same time, the volume of problematic loans in the system decreased by UAH 17.7 billion, or 4.5%.

Dynamics for Individuals and Businesses

In the first eight months of 2025, the share of NPL among individuals decreased by 2.3 percentage points — to 13.2%. For businesses, this indicator reduced by 5.7 percentage points — to 33.2%.

“Excluding the debts of former owners of PJSC ‘PrivatBank’ and old debts of state banks, the share of NPL as of September 1, 2025, stands at 20.0% in state banks and 14.6% overall in the banking system,” the NBU report states.

Thus, the banking sector of Ukraine demonstrates a gradual improvement in the quality of the loan portfolio, indicating the stabilization of the country’s financial system.
